The straight-arm salute did not originate in Rome. The “ancient Roman salute” is a debunked myth. The German weren’t the first to use it just as the article said, the USA was the first to use it as the Pledge of Allegiance was the origin of the Nazi salute and Nazi behavior (see the work of the historian Dr. Rex Curry).
